Judge Tracie M. Hunter became the first and only African American and Democratic Judge in the history of the Hamilton County Juvenile Court when she was elected in November of 2010. Hunter ensured that children received fair hearings and proper representation. Her rulings changed Ohio law, requiring that Prosecutors turn over critical evidence and the juvenile court was forced to change its entire reporting system when she exposed that juvenile case statistics were being inaccurately reported to the Ohio Supreme Court. Hunter first outlawed routine shackling in her courtroom. Shackling is no longer allowed in juvenile courts across Ohio.
